Individual Note: On April 9, 1862, William mentions in his diary that, while chopping stove wood, a wood chip hit him in the eye. Later pictures indicate something wrong with one of his eyes.
William lived and farmed all his life 4 miles south of Loami, IL. According to his Obituary (Springfield Journal, April 30, 1905), he contracted rheumatism in late March, 1905, and went to Hot Springs, Arkansas to recover. However, he died there and was brought back over the Chicago, Peoria and St. Louis Railroad. Services were held at South Fork church, Rev. M. L. Browning officiating.
