Individual Note:
     Settled his farm in 1832. He was administrator of the estate of his brother-in-law, William Taylor in 1830, and eventually administered the estates of at least 50 local people until 1867. He held many local offices, according to the "Early Settlers of Sangamon County."
He and Susannah built their house 1/4 mile west of the old church site in the dense forest, but later built 'the old homestead' in 1832. It was a short distance from the fork of the North and South branches of Lick Creek. 'Uncle Wash,' as everyone called him, built a 4 room house of walnut, with an east front to the road. He may have been born in 1809, not 1808.
