Individual Note:
     History of Sangamon County: He visited Sangamon County in 1826, with his brother, Greenberry, and moved to Island Grove Twp. on November 27, 1827. He raised cattle and had 60 head by 1838, which he sold in St. Louis. He died from the effects of being thrown from a carriage.
He and son William invented a device for grinding the prairie plow, with wheels and levers, but failed to secure a patent and never made money on it, although it was used in 1829.

Individual Note:
     According to the "Early Settlers," Stephen enlisted August, 1861 in Co. B, 30th Illinois Inf. and served for 3 years. In December, 1862, he was discharged with a disability and moved to Harrison Co, MO in 1865. While preparing to return to Illinois, he was murdered (for robbery).

HARBOUR, SAMUEL, was born Sept. 24, 1799, in Garrard county, Ky., and was taken by his parents, in infancy, to Christian county. In 1817 he accompanied his brother Levi to Madison county, Ill., and from there he came to what is now Chatham township, Sangamon County, arriving Oct., 1819. His widow resides on the farm where they settled, in 1829. It is five miles west of Chatham.
