Individual Note:
     According to the History of Sangamon County, Samuel J. apparently followed William F. Workman into the insurance industry. He started as a farmer and barber, but went to New York to work for the Equitable Life Ins. Co. till 1895, when he left for the Mutual Benefit Co. and finally became connected with the Franklin Life Ins. Co. in 1899.
